Family Promise Program

family

Homelessness is a reality in our greater community -- a very sad fact that affects so many children. Nationwide, 60% of the Family Promise guests are children. This program does not separate families -- another unique feature. The program has a 77% success rate of having families "graduate" into permanent housing.

St. Jerome Parish is the support church for First Congregational UCC, 815 S. Concord Ave., Oconomowoc. We will be working side-by-side to provide support for the homeless in our community. Please prayerfully consider how you can help serve these families, as Jesus expects of us. Volunteers are needed in several areas, as follows:

Set-Up Crew (10:15 - 11:45 AM, Sunday only)

Volunteers are needed to set up rooms for our guests. No volunteer training is required.

Meal Preparers

Typically, the meals are made ahead of time with minimal finishing at church before they are served. Specific menus are set up for each day, and multiple volunteers can participate. The meals need to be delivered on the day before your scheduled time. (There is a freezer and refrigerator to accommodate any schedule conflicts.) No volunteer training is required.

Dinner Host (4:45 - 7:00 PM)

Two volunteers help finalize the meal preparation and serve dinner at 6:00 PM. They also socialize and have dinner with the guests. Afterwards, they assist with clean-up and make lunch items available for families to pack their lunches. Volunteer training is required.

Evening Host (6:45 - 9:00 PM)

Two volunteers arrive and have dinner at 6:00 PM and socialize with guests. Assist in lunch bag process, if necessary. Assist parents with children's needs (i.e., activities, help with homework, read books, play games, or help with a particular need). Essentially, this is fellowship time with guests, and the only requirement is to meet them at whatever level they are at. Volunteer training is required.

Overnight Host (8:45 PM - 7:15 AM)

Two hosts stay overnight; they help families wind down for the evening and are available in case of an emergency. They also ensure guests are in their rooms by "lights out" at 10:00 p.m. (and lock up for the night). In the morning, the hosts wake up guests at 6:00 AM, have continental breakfast items available in the kitchen (the only exception is Saturday), and help guests to leave at 7:00 AM. Volunteer training is required.

Breakfast Preparers (6:30 - 8:15 AM, Saturday only)

On Saturdays only, two volunteers cook and serve breakfast at 7:15 AM and help guests to leave at 8:00 AM. Volunteer training is required.

Take-Down Crew (6:15 - 8:00 AM, Sunday only)

Volunteers are needed to do some cleaning, remove items from rooms and set up for Sunday School. No volunteer training is required.
